Aftercare
Care for your new finish
Follow these guidelines to protect your investment and keep your refinished surface looking flawless for years.
Important: cure time
Cure times vary by product and conditions. Grit Co uses products that can cure in as little as 24 hours — ideal for occupied or empty units, so you’re not left without a tub for long. Always ask Grit Co for the exact cure time for your specific project.
Countertop Aftercare
Initial curing
- First 72 hours: don’t touch or place anything on the counters; keep the area free of dust.
- First 7 days: light use is fine, but don’t leave standing water or pooling liquids on the surface.
Everyday cleaning
- Use a soft microfiber cloth with warm water and a mild dish soap (like Dawn) or a pH-neutral cleaner.
- Avoid abrasive powders (Comet/Ajax), steel wool, and abrasive green scouring pads.
Chemical & acid restrictions
- Avoid bleach, ammonia, vinegar, and citric acid.
- Wipe up acidic spills right away (lemon juice, vinegar, coffee, wine, tomato sauce).
Heat & scratch protection
- Use trivets and hot pads — never set hot pans directly on the surface.
- Always use a cutting board; never cut directly on the countertop.
Bathtub Aftercare
Curing period
- Confirm the exact cure time with Grit Co before use (see note below).
- Keep the bathroom ventilated while it cures.
- Don’t place soaps, bottles, or sponges on the new surface during this time.
Cleaning & maintenance
- Use non-abrasive liquid cleaners and a soft sponge or microfiber cloth.
- Avoid bleach, ammonia, abrasive powders, and Magic Erasers.
- Wipe the surface dry after each use to prevent mineral buildup.
What to avoid
- No suction-cup mats — they can delaminate the coating. Use a non-slip mat made for refinished tubs.
- Keep harsh drain cleaners, hair dyes, and nail-polish remover away from the finish.
- Don’t bathe pets in the tub — claws and pet shampoos can damage the finish.
